Jaco Reinach was included half way through Cravenweek to replace injured Jan Richter when he was still 16 years old in Grade 10 (St.8 in those years). Jaco didnt play 1st XV yet but made Free State colours before he could play 1st xv due to this.
Rufus Botha het die song vir Jaco gespeel “tongue in the cheek” in sy army jare en Jaco se loopbaan “bietjie af” was. Dit het Jaco toe geinspireer en hy het die volgende jaar sy Springbok klere vir atletiek verwerf. Vandaar ook sy gesegte “rather a has been than a never been”.
