This was 1997. The Grey Boys stood a guard of honour. All the primary school boys in the picture were grade 6 (standard 4) boys, who were selected as monitors for the next year. The grade 7 (standard 5) monitors were standing on the opposite side of the road (Riël de Kock, the head-boy of 1997, on the opposite side of the road). Madiba asked Robin Viljoen (small blond in picture) if he wanted to be the president one day, and he was answered “No, sir.”
